DVD dhamaka, based in New York, is one of the most successful Indian DVD stores in the with a collection of over 2000 DVDs to rent or buy from. Serving primarily the New York and New Jersey area they ventured into online selling in 2002 with the launch of DVDdhamaka.com. Currently, with a user base of more than 2000, they are selling DVDs all over.

Business Requirements

The client needed a website that showcased a huge collection of DVDs with the ability to add more merchandise from time to time.

The site would have a search facility and various criteria of sorting merchandize. A registered user would be able to login and buy DVDs of his choice using his credit card. Later he would be able to see the shipping status for his order.

The Administration of the web site had to have a simple interface in to enable display of the current offers and addition of more merchandize. The client also wanted access to all member details, order details in addition to sales statistics.

Solution

DVDdhamaka.com is an online DVD store where you can select and buy DVDs of your choice. Customers can use the advance search engine to search DVDs on the basis of language, genre, title etc. In order to buy a DVD the customer needs to be a registered member of the web site. Once registered, the user gets access to a highly customized shopping cart for viewing his profile, order, order history, order shipping status etc.

The DVDs are classified into different views like forthcoming, best-sellers, DVDs in budget etc. generate higher sales. Also when a customer adds a DVD to his cart, a list of DVDs which people bought with the selected DVD is displayed. This further increases the sales figure. The site also has a database of over 50,000 movies cross-referenced on the basis of its cast, director etc.

On the Administrator side the interface allows the admin to manage/update and add new merchandize in the database. Also he can view details of all members, orders and credit card transactions in addition to managing the shipping rate, promo codes etc. He can update the web site for special messages and discount schemes. Other features made available to the user are mass emails and newsletters, detailed sales reports, listing of customers and orders on the basis of several criteria etc.
