The client was looking for an online DVD/games rental website on the lines of netflix. He wanted 3 pricing options that customers could choose for the amount of dvds they would like to have out at a time. He wanted membership accounts on the website and an easy plus resourceful admin interface.

Solution

The website is an online dvd rental store. The customers can register through the website and select the ordering plan (1,2 or 3 DVDs at a time). Each plan has a different pricing structure. Once the member is registered, he can order from a large collection of DVDs. The site business concept is the same as netflix.com

The DVDs are sorted by various criterions in order to help the customer find easily what all he wants. A search facility is available on all pages and the main page has provision to display the new releases. A genre based selection is also provided on the home page.

The software automatically tracks the most requested DVDs and displays them on the home page. The site also as similar functionality for games.

The admin part of the application is designed in such a way that the store owner can handle it easily. Comprehensive reporting is made available so that he can keep a track of sales as well as revenues per customer. He can add, update dvd and game related information easily. He can add genres and track orders using this interface.

The panel automatically sends relevant e-mails to the customers when they register, order etc. This also minimizes the effort of the handler.

The admin enters the DVD stock into the software and each time a DVD is ordered, the availability is updated accordingly. In this way the users get to see the latest availability statistics.
