Web services based DMS integration
Further Reading Document Management System Home Very heavy file size management The final challenging task faced by the iSummation implementation team was the web services communication between the DMS application that handles the file meta information and accessibility information and the application that helps user in the image processing functions. The DMS is built using .Net technology is a web based application while the Image processing software is a C++ based desktop application. The onus of the successful integration and information sharing across the platforms lies with the DMS application. As a solution, our integration team developed a web services enabled application that allowed seamless communication between the desktop image processing tools and web based DMS. This integration helped the company resolve the big challenge of user access rights. Whenever a file open call comes from the Desktop application a session is set with the DMS application using web services. The DMS in turn retrieves the access information of the user that is logged in and requesting information. In case the request is valid, a session is set up and information transfer takes place between the 2 applications. In case the access information is not satisfactory, the session is dissolved immediately. This system allows several users to access the information from remote locations simultaneously. The data they work on is real time. Locking/unlocking and version management features are made available to avoid the problems of data overwriting and concurrent data manipulation.
