DMS Case study Main – For web services/ SOA
Our Client, a leading engineering design company based in Netherlands, has been actively seeking a solution to problem of managing large amounts of data that consist primarily of very large sized files. The problems are further compounded by the need of a sound accessibility matrix to manage complex access riders. The daily routine in the company required very heavy files to be uploaded, accessed, previewed and modified. With the inherent limitations of web in transporting files with such large file size, they needed a solution that could help save valuable resource time. The other problem vexing the organization was the complex accessibility matrix for the data. The access depended on varied factors like user designation, file extensions, time windows and workflow status. The client divided the project into two modules namely: the web-based DMS and the desktop based image management software. These two components were developed independent of each other using different technologies. The web based DMS module is developed on the Microsoft .Net platform while the Image processing software is C++ based. When integrated, both the modules function together to bring forth productive and useful results for the client. The integration of the separate technologies used by the two modules required the fundamentals of web services. Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) was employed to develop the applications so that they can invoke and communicate with each other. The development effort needed resolution of 3 primary challenges. Click below to understand how these challenges were countered and a successful system was implemented.
